In the "
Olivet Discourse" , which spans Matthew chapters 24 and 25, Jesus tells about "
all of it" (play on words) as in "
Ol-i-vet".
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? [kjv]
καθημενου δε αυτου επι του ορους των ελαιων προσηλθον αυτω οι μαθηται κατ ιδιαν λεγοντες ειπον ημιν ποτε ταυτα εσται και τι το σημειον της σης παρουσιας και συντελειας του αιωνος [gnt]
This verse, from the middle of the 1800's, has become the foundation of theology, books, etc., on the "
End Times". Beliefs, sometimes fanatical, in the
inerrancy of the Bible, became solidified from these beliefs.
4. Matthew 24:37 Public discourse
We skip 35 interesting verses about the end times to get to the verses of current relevance. This discourse is one of the longest recorded of Jesus, but almost never mentioned or covered in most churches. Why might that be?
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [kjv]

Be careful not to confuse the privet discourse about the end times in Matthew and Mark with the public discourse at the temple that is much the same, but with some important differences.
Why was Noah considered a king for a short time?
He had a 40 day reign.

When asked about the end times, Jesus says the following in the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24.

24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, [kjv]
24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [kjv]
People have always been marrying and giving in marriage.
What type of "marriage" might have been different before the flood?
[Vegetarianism, genetic engineering, marriages, etc.]

The ancient Greek word "παρουσία" ≈ "presence" which also means "advent" or "coming" as in making a presence known.
The Latin word "adventum" ≈ "advent, arrival".

1. Bad (evil) servant. One was surprised.
2. Ten virgins. Half, or five of the ten, or one of two groups, are surprised.
3. Talents: One of the three was surprised.
4. Sheep and goats. Some are surprised - for better or worse - of the four criteria (six stated).
This surprise is often associated with "
weeping" and "
gnashing of teeth".

world". Where is the one being
"taken"? How about the "
threshing" floor at the "
mill".

The Greek for
"left" is often translated as
"forgiven". Where is the other
"taken"?
Is it better to be "taken over" or "left"?
Is it better to be "taken over" and "thrown out" (a few verses later) or "left" and/or "forgiven"?
The ancient Greek word
"παραλαμβάνω" ≈ "take over (by consent or force)". Literally, it is "
beyond"
"taking". How is this word to be taken in these verses? The only thing Jesus says you are to do is to
"take" is your "
cross" and "
follow" Him. However, Jesus is not bound by this
"take" restriction.

The
TR (Textus Receptus) changes "
day" to "
hour".
Jesus repeats this idea of "
day" and "
hour" many times. It might be important.
