The word often translated as "trespass" is the ancient Greek word "παράπτωσις""impetuous pursuit, going astray". The parts of the word mean, literally, going "beyond falling" as in "fault" of imperfection. A general English phrase for this might be "stupid things" that are done (by you or others).

Might these "stupid things" for which we are to "let go" include what is described in the verses that immediately follow?

Assume the pronoun "you" refers to "fasting" as in "not eating". Let the "food" be the "bread" of "life". Do not eat the fruit! Do not feed the birds!

It is the source of the first part of the English word "misogynist" as someone who "hates" "women". Jesus says that the world will "hate" his followers because the world "hates" Jesus (and God). The church is the bride of Christ who is the groom. Does this make the (people in the) "world" that of a "misogynist"?

There is a possible play on words in Greek of "wonders" with "friends". Once one hears it, can be hard to un-hear it.

Consider the two cases. This leaves a hole in the logic. The "something else" is not addressed! Would Jesus leave such a logical hole? Perhaps the translation needs investigated.

One way to handle the "something else" is as follows.
The result of this is that "he" is serving "something else" besides "God" or "Money".

Omitting the "something else" is very convenient for anyone wanting to avoid violation of this verse. The (invalid) logic goes as follows.
It appears that, in response to this (faulty) logic, the definition of "Money" or "Mammon" has been expanded over time to account for the otherwise unappreciated hole in the logic - as evident from the translation.

It might be better to fix the hole rather than just patch it with some revised definitions.

Let us look at the verses after parable of the unjust steward in Luke since Luke uses "mammon" three times in five verses. The unjust servant, knowing he was to be demoted, goes out and cancels debts so that he will be able to do better after his demotion. Jesus commends the behavior in a certain way.

The KJV translates as "wise" the Greek word that means "prudent" as in finding an acceptable solution within constraints. Jesus does not use the word "wise" in a good sense.

Jeremiah has some verses that appear to describe an expanded idea of "mammon".

The Greek word translated as "glory" is that of "boasting". The three parts of what might be considered mammon are as follows.

Proverbs 3:5 appears to address part of the expanded idea of "mammon".

The Greek word translated as "trust" is that of "persuasion" or "belief", sometimes translated as "faith".

Where the KJV, from the Hebrew, uses "understanding", the LXX uses the ancient Greek word "σοφός""clever, cunning" and is often translated as the English word "wise". Jesus does not use the word "wise" in a good sense.

In ancient Greece, "Μῶμος""Momos" was the god of satire and mockery. Momos appears in two of Aesop's Fables. His demeanor was later softened to that of a fool.
The Greek name is related to the ancient Greek word "μομφή""blame, reproach, disgrace".

Momos is said to have contrived to initiate the Trojan War.
