2. Revelation 21:1-27
3. Revelation 21:1 Earth
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [kjv]
This new
"earth" is somewhat different. There is no "
sea". What is the old "
heaven"? What is the new "
heaven"?
The modern Greek word
"γη" (ghee) ≈ "earth, land" and is the source of English words such as "
geology", "
geometry", "
geocentric", "
geography", etc.
There are (at least) two places called
"earth".
The original and current "earth".
The new "heaven" and new "earth".
Which
"earth" is meant by the third Beatitude? Might the third Beatitude have a double-meaning where both meanings are true in a certain sense?
4. Revelation 21:1
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [kjv]
Rather than
"passed by" (prefix "
beyond") the word is
"passed away" (prefix "
away from").
What does "heaven" represent? (birds, Jesus as head and eyes)
What does "earth" represent? (pigs, sheep)
What does "sea" represent? (fish)
5. Revelation 21:1
KJV: And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
6. Revelation 21:2
Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [kjv]
7. Revelation 21:2
KJV: And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
8. Revelation 21:3
Revelation 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [kjv]
9. Revelation 21:3
KJV: And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
10. Revelation 21:4
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [kjv]

Might the meaning be of "
no more toil" instead of "
no more pain" for those who have trouble distinguishing between "
fatigue" and "
pain"? No pain, no gain!
11. Revelation 21:4
KJV: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
12. Revelation 21:5
Revelation 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. [kjv]

14. Revelation 21:6 Alpha and omega in Revelation
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. [kjv]
The
TR (Textus Receptus) back-patches parts of these verses into previous verses in Revelation. Some parts of these verses are rearranged in the
TR.
15. Revelation 21:6
KJV: And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

18. Revelation 21:8 Sorcery
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. [kjv]
The ancient Greek word
"μέρος" ≈ "part, portion, share" and is the source of the ancient Greek word
"μέριμνα" ≈ "portion, part" and is related to the ancient Greek words for "
care" is in the "
cares of this world" and "
anxious" is an about getting one's share or part.
The modern Greek word
"μέρος" (MEH-ros) ≈ "part" and is part of the modern Greek word
"διαμέρισμα" (thee-a-MEH-ree-sma) ≈ "apartment" where one occupies "
part" of a building.
19. Caleb and the canine dogs
The English name
"Caleb" comes, through Late Latin, from the ancient Greek word
"Χάλεβ" ≈ "Caleb" which comes from the Hebrew word
Caleb, dog".
Throughout times, the name of "
dog" could have good or bad connotations.
Albert Einstein was called a
lazy "
dog" by one of his teachers.
20. Revelation 21:8
KJV: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

21. Revelation 21:9
Revelation 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. [kjv]
22. Revelation 21:9

23. Revelation 21:10 Dimensions
Revelation 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, [kjv]
In Aristotle, dimensions are provided with "
depth" as the third dimension rather than "
height".
In the Bible, such as in Revelation, in the new heaven and new earth, dimensions are given differently, using "
height", and this is used in many places.
A few verses later, in verse 16, the measurements are given.
24. Revelation 21:10
KJV: And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
25. Revelation 21:11
Revelation 21:11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; [kjv]
26. Revelation 21:11
KJV: Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
27. Revelation 21:12 Borders and walls
Revelation 21:12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: [kjv]
28. Revelation 21:12
KJV: And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
29. Revelation 21:13

31. Revelation 21:14
Revelation 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. [kjv]
32. Revelation 21:14

33. Revelation 21:15
Revelation 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. [kjv]
The Greek word for "
reed" is used in Revelation as a way to measure. The measuring standard is a "
golden" reed rather than a "
platinum" ruler.
In English, a measuring "
ruler" is often considered to be a "
foot ruler". Otherwise clarification is needed. Another measuring term is "
yardstick".
34. Revelation 21:15
KJV: And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
Wycliffe: And he that spak with me, hadde a goldun mesure of a rehed, that he schulde mete the citee, and the yatis of it, and the wal.
35. Revelation 21:16 Dimensions
Revelation 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. [kjv]
Whatever was reality on the earth - length, breadth and depth, is now the reality of the new earth - length, breadth and height.
36. Revelation 21:16
KJV: And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
37. Revelation 21:17
Revelation 21:17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. [kjv]
In Revelation, the new heaven and earth is measured.
38. Revelation 21:17
KJV: And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
39. Revelation 21:18 Edification of the wall
Revelation 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. [kjv]
"ἐνδόμησις" ≈ "building" (edification) in the TR Greek.
"ἐνδώμησις" ≈ "building" (edification) in the NA (Nestle Aland) Greek.
Many Greek words in the
TR Greek differ from the
NA Greek in that the
TR uses "
ο" (omicron) while the
NA uses "
ω" (omega). In
modern Greek, these vowels sound the same. In
ancient times they would have been slightly different in pronunciation.
40. Revelation 21:18
KJV: And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
41. Revelation 21:19 Emeralds
Revelation 21:19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; [kjv]
This
"emerald" here appears to refer to an actual stone rather than just the color.
*G4664 *1 σμαράγδινος (smar-ag'-dee-nos) : from G4665; consisting of emerald:--emerald.
*G4665 *1 σμάραγδος (smar'-ag-dos) : of uncertain derivation; the emerald or green gem so called:--emerald.
42. Wizard of Oz: Emerald City
Emerald City is the destination of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
There they will find the Wizard and a horse of a different color.
Emeralds have a range of color from yellow-green to green.

Reading into what Aristotle said about the rainbow, what we call yellow may have appeared, to some, as green.
43. Revelation 21:19
Revelation 21:19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; [kjv]
44. Revelation 21:19
KJV: And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
Latin: fundamenta muri civitatis omni lapide pretioso ornata fundamentum primum iaspis secundus sapphyrus tertius carcedonius quartus zmaragdus
45. Revelation 21:20
Revelation 21:20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. [kjv]
46. Revelation 21:20

A
"gate" is a passage way from one side to the other. Each
"gate" is a
"pearl". One might conclude that a
"pearl" represents a
"gate" or "
access mechanism" to that passage way. It appears that there are
12 pearls but not
12 different pearls.
The ancient Greek word "πυλών" ≈ "gateway".
The ancient Greek word "πύλη" ≈ "wing of gates, entrance".
48. Revelation 21:21
KJV: And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the streeet of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Wycliffe: And twelue yatis ben twelue margaritis, bi ech; `and ech yate was of ech margarete. And the stretis of the citee weren clene gold, as of glas ful schynynge.
