Revelation 21:1-27

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [kjv]

και ειδον ουρανον καινον και γην καινην ο γαρ πρωτος ουρανος και η πρωτη γη απηλθαν και η θαλασσα ουκ εστιν ετι [gnt]

This new "earth" is somewhat different. There is no "sea". What is the old "heaven"? What is the new "heaven"?

The modern Greek word "γη" (ghee) ≈ "earth, land" and is the source of English words such as "geology", "geometry", "geocentric", "geography", etc.

There are (at least) two places called "earth".

The original and current "earth".
The new "heaven" and new "earth".

Which "earth" is meant by the third Beatitude? Might the third Beatitude have a double-meaning where both meanings are true in a certain sense?

Rather than "passed by" (prefix "beyond") the word is "passed away" (prefix "away from").

What does "heaven" represent? (birds, Jesus as head and eyes)
What does "earth" represent? (pigs, sheep)
What does "sea" represent? (fish)

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [kjv]

Might the meaning be of "no more toil" instead of "no more pain" for those who have trouble distinguishing between "fatigue" and "pain"? No pain, no gain!

The ancient Greek word "μέρος" ≈ "part, portion, share" and is the source of the ancient Greek word "μέριμνα" ≈ "portion, part" and is related to the ancient Greek words for "care" is in the "cares of this world" and "anxious" is an about getting one's share or part.

The modern Greek word "μέρος" (MEH-ros) ≈ "part" and is part of the modern Greek word "διαμέρισμα" (thee-a-MEH-ree-sma) ≈ "apartment" where one occupies "part" of a building.

The English name "Caleb" comes, through Late Latin, from the ancient Greek word "Χάλεβ" ≈ "Caleb" which comes from the Hebrew word "כלב" ≈ "Caleb, dog".

Throughout times, the name of "dog" could have good or bad connotations.

Albert Einstein was called a lazy "dog" by one of his teachers.

In Aristotle, dimensions are provided with "depth" as the third dimension rather than "height".

In the Bible, such as in Revelation, in the new heaven and new earth, dimensions are given differently, using "height", and this is used in many places.

A few verses later, in verse 16, the measurements are given.

Revelation 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. [kjv]

The Greek word for "reed" is used in Revelation as a way to measure. The measuring standard is a "golden" reed rather than a "platinum" ruler.

In English, a measuring "ruler" is often considered to be a "foot ruler". Otherwise clarification is needed. Another measuring term is "yardstick".

Whatever was reality on the earth - length, breadth and depth, is now the reality of the new earth - length, breadth and height.

Revelation 21:16

"ἐνδόμησις" ≈ "building" (edification) in the TR Greek.
"ἐνδώμησις" ≈ "building" (edification) in the NA (Nestle Aland) Greek.

Many Greek words in the TR Greek differ from the NA Greek in that the TR uses "ο" (omicron) while the NA uses "ω" (omega). In modern Greek, these vowels sound the same. In ancient times they would have been slightly different in pronunciation.

This "emerald" here appears to refer to an actual stone rather than just the color.

Emeralds have a range of color from yellow-green to green.

Reading into what Aristotle said about the rainbow, what we call yellow may have appeared, to some, as green.

A "gate" is a passage way from one side to the other. Each "gate" is a "pearl". One might conclude that a "pearl" represents a "gate" or "access mechanism" to that passage way. It appears that there are 12 pearls but not 12 different pearls.

The ancient Greek word "πύλη" ≈ "wing of gates, entrance".
