An old joke is pronounced as follows.

What is black and white and red all over?

One answer is a (black and white print) newspaper that is "read" all over - rather than "red".

How many young people have never read a newspaper?

The ancient Greek has several words for "new".

"νέος" ≈ "young, fresh, unexpected" and is the source of the English word "new".
"καινός" ≈ "novel, recent" and is related, through Latin, to the English word "recent".

The English word "news" is some report or information that is "new" and not "old". Anything that is "new" will, over time, become "old". So, by definition, "news" does not happen very often. Otherwise, it would not be "new"!

This is "new" as in "fresh".

In the verse for the "new" "cloth" and "old" "garment" from Matthew 9:16, the "new" is inferred and not in the Greek.

In the verse for "new" "wine" and "old" "bottles" in Matthew 9:17, the "new" is used in two different forms in the Greek.

The "new wine" is the "new" as in "young". Wine is measured (as an approximation).
The "new bottles" is the "new" as in "fresh". Bottles are counted (as a discrete entity).

Note: The "bottle" is actually a wine skin or flask.

There is a "New Testament" or "New Covenant" in the GNT (Greek New Testament) but there appears to be little mention of an "Old Testament" or "Old Covenant" in the GNT (Luke, 2 Corinthians). Thus, it is hard to relate "new" and "old" to "testament" or "covenant".

The TR (Textus Receptus) adds the word "new".
