The ancient Greek word
"ἶρις" ≈ "rainbow, halo". This word appears twice in the
GNT, in Revelation, and not in the
LXX (Septuagint). The related Latin word
"iris" ≈ "rainbow" and is the source of the English word
"iridescent" (coined about 1800).
