A hope in a persuasive belief in faith into Jesus
1. A hope in a persuasive belief in faith into Jesus
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. [kjv]
ουτως και η πιστις εαν μη εχη εργα νεκρα εστιν καθ εαυτην [gnt]
Today, the word
"faith" tends to means a trust or expectation in something that cannot be known for sure. The similarities and differences between
"belief" and
"faith" can be seen in a few well-known verses in James. \Here we are not concerned with "
works" but with the words
"faith" and
"belief".
"πιστός" ≈ "trustworthy, faithful, reliable".
"πίστις" ≈ "trust in others, faith, being persuaded".
"πείθω" ≈ "convince, persuade, obey, yield to, believe/trust in" and, in context, "mislead".
2. James 2:17-18

3. James 2:17
KJV: Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Greek: ουτως και η πιστις εαν μη εργα εχη εργα νεκρα εστιν καθ εαυτην
Latin: sic et fides si non habeat opera mortua est in semet ipsam
Wycliffe: So also feith, if it hath not werkis, is deed in it silf.
Luther: Also auch der Glaube, wenn er nicht Werke hat, ist er tot an ihm selber.
Russian: Так и вера, если не имеет дел, мертва сама по себе.
4. James 2:18
KJV: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

15. Augustine: Belief
If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself. Saint Augustine (Early Christian father)
Do people today pick and choose which parts of the Bible they will believe?
Do pastors today pick and choose which parts of the Bible they will believe? Do they then pass on those parts to their flock and not tell them about other parts?
The church at Laodicea did not let Jesus into their church. He is standing knocking at the door waiting for them to let him in.
Note that you can ignore parts of the Gospel that you do not know about or do not understand (ignorance of the law) or you can ignore parts of the Gospel in order to deceive others (and yourself).

fire", "
water".
The "
ask", "
seek", "
knock" sequence is part of the "
flame" and "
sword" progression.
30. Details
Put the Kingdom of God outside of space and time and (since the fall) includes the "tree of life". The creation is inside space and time.
The "flaming sword" both protects and keeps the way open.
The "Kingdom of Earth" is for those "of the world".
The "Kingdom of Heaven" is for those "in the world".
The "flaming sword" is provided by Jesus who "throws" the "sword". The Holy Spirit provides the "flame".
Birth#3 is the regeneration or in-processing into the Kingdom of God.
