5. Matthew 24:3 Cooperative effort
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? [kjv]
καθημενου δε αυτου επι του ορους των ελαιων προσηλθον αυτω οι μαθηται κατ ιδιαν λεγοντες ειπον ημιν ποτε ταυτα εσται και τι το σημειον της σης παρουσιας και συντελειας του αιωνος [gnt]
The ancient Greek word
"συντέλεια" ≈ "cooperative effort, partnership" and comes from two Greek words.
"συν" ≈ "together"
"τέλος" ≈ "end, purpose, complete".
Paraphrase:
... and (a) cooperative effort (of the religious elite with the oppressed faithful) of the ages.
This is vastly different than the
"end" of the
"world". The
TR (Textus Receptus) adds the Greek for "
of the" before
"end" which is not needed using the Greek word meaning.
6. Matthew 24:3 Latin end of the world
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? [kjv]
καθημενου δε αυτου επι του ορους των ελαιων προσηλθον αυτω οι μαθηται κατ ιδιαν λεγοντες ειπον ημιν ποτε ταυτα εσται και τι το σημειον της σης παρουσιας και συντελειας του αιωνος [gnt]
… signum adventus … consummationis saeculi [v]
Modern English translations often reflect the
Latin, and
not the
Greek, word meanings.
Greek: "παρουσία" ≈ "presence, arrival, occasion, substance"
Latin: "adventum" ≈ "advent, arrival".
English: "coming".
In many cases, the primary Latin meanings does not fit the primary Greek meaning. Often, another Latin meaning for that word is used in the translation going forward.
Greek: "συντέλεια" ≈ "cooperative effort, partnership"
Latin: "consummatio" ≈ "summing up, completion, consummation"
English: "end"
Greek: "αἰών" ≈ "lifetime, age, forever"
Latin: "saeculum" ≈ "race, generation, age, time"
English: "world"
8. A harvest of cooperative efforts
In the Kingdom Parables, Jesus explains that he uses code words whose meanings are needed to understand the meaning of what he says. He provides a few code words. The disciples figure out a few code words. The rest appear to be left as an exercise for the reader.
For example, the word "
harvest" is defined by Jesus as a
"cooperative effort" of the
"ages" but is translated as the
"end" of the
"world". The content here looks at the code word "
harvest" and the meaning of
"cooperative effort".
9. Matthew 13:24-30,36-43 KP2 Parable of the wheat and tares
The parable of the wheat and the tares provides a
fault tolerant and realistic approach to the
tolerance paradox which, as a simple form of the Russell Paradox, has no logical solution but occurs often in society.
Parable: (encoded with code words)
Matthew 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? [kjv]
13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. [kjv]
Explained: (decoded code words)
13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. [kjv]

The "
angels" as
"reapers" are part of a
"cooperative effort" of the
"age".
The Greek translated as "
sever" is the same word used in "
separate" in the parable of the sheep and goats.
13. Matthew 28:20
14. Matthew 7:28
Matthew 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: [kjv]
και εγενετο οτε ετελεσεν ο ιησους τους λογους τουτους εξεπλησσοντο οι οχλοι επι τη διδαχη αυτου [gnt]
The Greek translated as
"ended" is that of
"completed".
"τέλος" ≈ "end, purpose, complete".
"συντέλεια" ≈ "cooperative effort, partnership"
The
TR changes the Greek for
"completed" to that of
"cooperative effort" which is often translated as
"end".
