Wholesome and healthy sanctified saints

1. Wholesome and healthy sanctified saints
Smiley - devil Smiley - rolling eyes Smiley - angel

The original word for "saint" meant someone who was "holy". The Catholic church elevated "saint" to "Saint".

Verse routeMatthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [kjv]
Verse routeκαι τα μνημεια ανεωχθησαν και πολλα σωματα των κεκοιμημενων αγιων ηγερθησαν [gnt]
Verse routesanctorum … [v]
Verse routeweihaize … [got]
Verse routeHeiligen… [lu]

The English word "holy" came from "wholesome" as "healthy" since one should be physically healthy or whole and spiritually healthy or holy.

2. November 1: All Saint's Day
All Saints day is on November 1, which appears to many to have been chosen to compete with the Pagan holiday called Samhain around the same date. This day starts the evening before, or the "evening of the hallowed" or "Hallows evening" or "Halloween" or "All Hallow Even".

3. Modern Greek

4. October 31: Halloween
The English word "Halloween" comes from the Scottish word "Allhallowmas" as an earlier name of "All Saint's Day" and "even" being "eve" is in the "evening before".
The English word "hallow" comes from the Middle English word "halwe""saint, holy thing" which comes from the Old English word "halga""holy one, saint". It is related to the German word "Heilige""saint".

It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianized as Halloween by the early Church. (Wikipedia)

5. Equivocation
Sometimes pastors will use an equivocation by blurring the distinction between "saint" and "Saint", calling almost anyone in the congregation a "saint" with the unmade distinction that many in the congregation will be thinking "Saint" and not "saint".
Aristotle introduced the idea of an "equivocation" as a way to use invalid logic to prove a point. Paul appears to allude to this in Philippians 2. Note: A "Saint" is a recognition/opinion by the organization bestowing the title.

6. Sinners and saints
Smiley - devil Smiley - rolling eyes Smiley - angel

It has happened that a family named Sinner and another family named Saint lived on the same street next to each other. Thus, one street had both Sinners and Saints.

Pastors will sometimes use an "equivocation" to blur the distinction between "saint" as "holy believer" and "Saint" as someone canonized by, say, the Catholic Church.

7. Under the earth
What is "under the earth"?

Verse routeMatthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [kjv]
Verse routeκαι τα μνημεια ανεωχθησαν και πολλα σωματα των κεκοιμημενων αγιων ηγερθησαν [gnt]
Verse routesanctorum … [v]
Verse routeweihaize … [got]
Verse routeHeiligen… [lu]

Note that these "saints" would have been from the time of the OT (Old Testament).

The Gothic "weihaize" as "holy" (ones) is the source of the first part of the German word "Weihnachten""Christmas" as, literally "Holy" and "night".

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, ... the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

Note that the "he descended to the dead" is often omitted in UM church services when repeating the Apostle's Creed. Why might that be?

Verse routeJeremiah 31:37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. [kjv]

OceanWe still do not know exactly what is at the center of the earth.

The secular view is that the core is molten, but this creates many scientific theory and observational issues that are not talked about.

So we have not searched out the depths of the earth. Nor have we measured the heaven above, as the Hubble space telescope has demonstrated.
