Measuring using a rubber ruler
by RS  admin@creationpie.org : 1024 x 640

1. Measuring using a rubber ruler
A "rubber ruler" is a ruler that stretches somewhat when it is used for measurement purposes.

A "rubber ruler" can be used to measure itself. The measurement is thus relative and not at all accurate. It measures whatever it has been stretched to measure.

2. Paul
Paul mentions the latter concept of a "rubber ruler" in 2 Corinthians 10:12.

3. 2 Corinthians 10:12
 All
KJV: For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Paul continues with the measuring concept.

4. 2 Corinthians 10:13
 All
KJV: But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

5. 2 Corinthians 10:14
 All
KJV: For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

6. 2 Corinthians 10:15
 All
KJV: Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

7. Grading on a curve
Think of the parable of the sheep and (kid) goats. Is there a "participation trophy" for whatever effort is made and for whatever is done? A related question is "Does God grade on a curve?".

8. The speed of light and other physical constants
In physics, a constant as a number that is assumed not to change. In the 1960's the speed of light was redefined to be based on certain atomic measurements. These measurements are themselves based on the speed of light. Using the speed of light to measure the speed of light constitutes a rubber ruler.
