Psalms 119:18Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. [kjv]
… עיני … [he]
αποκαλυψον τουςοφθαλμουςμου και κατανοησω ταθαυμασιασου εκ τουνομουσου [lxx]
The hymn "Open my eyes that I may see" was based on Psalms 119:18. Additional verses cover the "ears", "mouth" and "mind".
It was written in 1895 by Clara Scott (American composer) . Growing up on a farm in the mid-west, the family moved to Chicago. She was the first woman to publish a volume of anthems. In 1897, returning from a funeral with some friends, she was thrown from her carriage and died instantly from the accident at age 55.

6. Matthew 13:15 Closed eyes
Matthew 13:15For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. [kjv]
Jesus talks about those with closed eyes who do not see, or choose not to see.
The Greek word for "see" used here means to see with understanding and not just see as in observing or in passing.
KJV: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
*G3788 *100 ὀφθαλμός (of-thal-mos') : from G3700; the eye (literally or figuratively); by implication, vision; figuratively, envy (from the jealous side-glance):--eye, sight.

12. Death
In 1897, returning from a funeral with some friends, she was thrown from her carriage and died instantly from the accident at age 55.
13. Verses
The three traditional verses involve the senses though the eyes, ears and mouth.
14. Three monkeys proverb
An old proverb invokes the following.
see no evil (cover the eyes)
hear no evil (cover the ears)
speak no evil (cover the mouth)
This is sometimes known as the three-monkeys principle or the three wise monkeys, from ancient Japanese carvings, India's Mahatma Gandhi, and perhaps from other sources.
15. Verse 1
Open my eyes that I may see
glimpses of truth thou hast for me.
Place in my hands the wonderful key
that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
16. Verse 2
Open my ears that I may hear
voices of truth thou sendest clear,
and while the wave notes fall on my ear,
ev’rything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my ears, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
17. Verse 3
Open my mouth and let me bear
gladly the warm truth ev’rywhere.
Open my heart and let me prepare
love with thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my mouth, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
18. Verse 4
Open my mind that I may read
More of thy love in word and deed,
What shall I fear while yet thou dost lead?
Only for light from thee I plead.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my mind, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
