1 Corinthians 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. [kjv]
τιμης ηγορασθητε μη γινεσθε δουλοι ανθρωπων [gnt]
Matthew 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. [kjv]
αμην λεγω σοι ου μη εξελθης εκειθεν εως αν αποδως τον εσχατον κοδραντην [gnt]
Elvina M. Hall (1818-1889) Virginia, wrote the words to the song "
Jesus paid it all" in the hymnal while day-dreaming during a sermon. John T. Grape happened to have just written a melody. They fit exactly. It was written in 1865 as the American Civil War was coming to a close.
Question: If Jesus paid it all, do we need to keep paying the religious establishment? Can we just go out and do what Jesus asks us to do?
