John 17:1-26 Prayer after the Last Supper
1. John 17:1-26 Prayer after the Last Supper
2. First Thursday in May
Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. [kjv]
και παντα οσα αν αιτησητε εν τη προσευχη πιστευοντες λημψεσθε [gnt]
In context, this verse is
not good. Paraphrase:
Previous verses: If you are not careful, you will cause all these bad (not good) things will happen.
This verse: and, if you are persuaded to ask for these bad (not good) things, you will take them (not good).
The first Thursday in May is "
National Day of Prayer".
The ancient Greek word
"προσεύχομαι" ≈ "pray, vow, request" as in putting forth a
"request" or
"wish". Aristotle uses the shorter form
"εὐχή" ≈ "prayer, wish".
