    The Latin word "februum" ≈ "purification" which is cognate with the Latin word "febris" ≈ "fever" from the PIE (Proto Indo-European) root "*DEG" ≈ "burn, warm" and from which we get the English word "fever".

    The Roman purification ritual of February was on February 15, the full moon of the original Roman lunar calendar. The Latin word "februum" ≈ "purification" became the name for the month of February which had been the last month of the year, and the only month with less than 30 days.
