The English word
"June" comes, through French, from the Latin word
"Iunius" ≈ "Junius" the Roman month of the goddess. The Latin word
"Iuno" ≈ "Juno" patron of rulers and childbirth. Equivalent to the Greek Hera.
Flag day: June 14: Adoption of the United States flag in 1777.
Juneteenth day: June 19. Commemorating the end of slavery in the United States in 1865. Also called Emancipation Day.
Father's Day: Third Sunday in June.
June: Serious baseball season, but not yet the stretch.

11. Father's Day
Father's Day, starting in the United States, was first observed on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to honor fathers who had died in a mining accident.
Following Mother's Day, Father's Day become more common.
President Woodrow Wilson refereed to Father's Day in 1916 and 1924. President Calvin Coolidge promoted it. President Lyndon B. Johnson issued a proclamation in 1966 setting it on the third Sunday in June. In 1972 President Nixon signed it into law as a permanent national holiday.
Juneteenth is on June 19 and became a federal holiday in 2021.

In 1849, English Catholic Frederick Faber (1814-1863) wrote the hymn "
Faith of our fathers" written in memory of the Catholic martyrs from the time that the Church of England was established by Henry VII. One version was for Ireland and one for England. Many variations of the hymn exist today. Originally, the "
fathers" was "
martyrs".
